The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has committed additional installment of Rs.800 crore for the Hogenakkal Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project in Tamil Nadu.
This installment is for covering Hosur and adjoining areas of Krishnagiri district under the project. The project cost has been revised to Rs1,928.8 crore, of which the Tamil Nadu Government’s share is expected to be Rs.343.2 crore.
The scheme will cover, three municipalities, 17 town panchayats and 6,755 rural habitations, benefiting about three million people eventually.
JICA has already committed to providing Rs.785.5 crore for other components of the project, including construction of headworks and treatment plant and laying distribution lines.
