The MSRDC has reportedly extended the bid submission date for the Inland Passenger Water Transport Project (IPWTP) in Mumbai, till 30 September 2009.
IPWTP has been delayed for a long time, after MSRDC cancelled Satyagiri Shipping Company's bid in February 2008 for setting up the entire project on the western shores of Mumbai.
Even though the Maharashtra Government relaxed certain terms and conditions mentioned in the tender for IPWTP and floated the international bids in order to solve the commuting problem of Mumbai denizens in December 2008, the project received a very low response.
In January 2009, the MSRDC again extended the deadline owing to global financial crisis affecting several infrastructure and transportation projects.
According to the MSRDC plans, the IPWTP is likely to be developed on BOT basis for 30 years. Post completion, jetties are expected to come up at Nariman Point, Bandra, Juhu, Versova, Marve, Charkop and Borivali in Mumbai.
