The Central Government has cleared Rs 700 crore for projects in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The projects comprise development of sewers, pumping stations (main, intermediate and lift), a sewerage treatment plant and disposal, renovation and replacement of old sewers and low-cost sanitation. The proposed investment will also take care of the operation and management of the structures.

Even though the first installment was released in April 2007 the project is yet to take off as the city corporations are not used to handling such huge funds.
