The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) is all set to introduce hot air balloon at Rain Drop Boat House in Mudaliarkuppam on East Coast Road, as part of its drive to make the state a major destination for Adventure Tourism. Parasailing is being launched for the first time in the state. According to a report in Express Buzz, as per a policy note on demands for tourism tabled by N Suresh Rajan, Tourism Minister, Tamil Nadu in the state assembly, TTDC’s initiative comes under Public Private Partnership, which is likely to be started by September this year. He added that Tamil Nadu Tourism was coordinating with Youth Hostels Association of India to conduct trekking programme in hilly region.
Rajan announced that tourists can also book rooms in TTDC hotels through mobile phones. The total hotel occupancy in hotels was about 62 per cent in 2008-09, against 50 per cent during 2004-05. Moreover, 626.18 lakh domestic tourists, 20.40 lakh foreign tourists have visited the state last year and the sector is experiencing annual growth of 22 per cent. Also, steps are being taken to provide infrastructure in tourist places under 15 categories. The Minister said green car parking facility is being planned to be provided at the rear side of Island Grounds at a cost of Rs 45 lakh.
