An MoU is likely to be signed among the state governments of Orissa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh for introducing cruise connectivity from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata via Orissa coast to promote inter-state tourism.
Currently, these states are holding talks for the proposed project. The project is expected to be implemented before end-December 2009 on PPP mode.
After the signing of MoU, EoIs are likely to be invited from interested companies to operate the cruise. Under the project, the tourists will travel from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata on the sea route. The steamer carrying the tourist will offer resting and dinning facilities. At least two steamers will operate under the project-one from West Bengal and the other from Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation is now operating a sea cruise for tourists for a shorter duration.
