The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) plans to organise road shows in cities of South America, South Africa, Europe, Middle East and Scandinavia this year, for which it will spend Rs 30 million, informed Vijay Thakur, President, IATO.
IATO has already spent about Rs 23.1 million to organise road shows in 22 cities in 12 countries to promote tourism in India. It is one of the largest contributions from the travel trade for inbound tourism promotion, claims Pronab Sarkar, Honorary Secretary, IATO. Sarkar informed that the Association also spent Rs five lakh to offer 220 lucky draw prizes, which were given to foreign buyers who attended the road shows abroad. While a total of 2,190 buyers and sellers attended the road shows, the total sellers were 105, of which 85 were active IATO members.
The 22 cities (in 12 countries), where IATO members organised road shows, in association with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), were: Melbourne and Sydney Australia); Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia); Singapore; London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Dublin and Burmingham (United Kingdom); Ireland; Seoul (South Korea); Tokyo, Osaka (Japan); Dubai (UAE); Muscat; Bahrain; New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles (USA) and Vancouver and Toronto (Canada).
