Cruise Tourism has tremendous potential in India: Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja

According to a PIB release, the Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja recently said that there is tremendous potential of Cruise Tourism in the country and therefore accordingly the Cruise Shipping Policy of Ministry of Shipping has been approved. The projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) for development of Cruise Tourism in 2008-09 include: Development of tourism infrastructure at Cochin Port, Kerala for Rs 1450.00 lakh to Cochin Port Trust, Kochi; Purchase of Ferries in Tamil Nadu for Rs 52.70 lakh to Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Ltd., Chennai. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha earlier this week she said that the Cochin Port was also one of the eleven ports in world which hosted the Volvo Ocean Race from December 3-13, 2008.
