Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) is planning to launch its 3G operations across India covering at least 700 cities during 2009.
The total cost for the launch of these services is likely to be Rs.2,700 crore. As per the plan, BSNL is expected to launch its services across North and East India by June 2009 and in the south and west India by July 2009. The services are slated to be launched in east and west of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam. Besides, plans are afoot to launch these services in Kolkata by April 2009.
BSNL has launched its 3G services on 27 February 2009 in Jammu, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ambala, Shimla, Jalandhar, Agra, Dehra Dun, Patna, Ranchi, Haldia and Durgapur.
