Essar Steel is planning to invest around Rs 1,000 crore for setting up service centres across India, North America and the Middle East over the next three years to cater to specific steel requirement of auto, white goods and SME sectors.
The company launched its Rs 75 crore third service centre at Bahadurgarh in Haryana on 6 May 2009. The 2.5 lakh tpa centre will provide customised steel. In all, the steel major intends to set up about 15-20 such centres with a cumulative capacity of 4.2 million tpa as against the present 2.5 million tpa.
Essar has similar facilities in Hazira, Pune and Chennai which are backed by the company's 4.6 million tpa steel plant at Hazira in Gujarat, which is being expanded to 9.6 million tonne by 2010-11.
Meanwhile, the company had put its proposed projects in Vietnam, and Trinidad and Tobago on back burner citing global slump in demand.
