The Centre has drawn up a draft proposal that says all special economic zones should meet at least 25 per cent of their lighting needs through solar energy, a move that will go a long way in making SEZs green, reports ProjectsToday. It also calls for a minimum of 2 per cent of the estimated energy consumption for each zone from solar or other form of renewable energy. The ministry of new and renewable energy also announced a generation-based incentive scheme for grid connected wind power projects to attract FDI and IPP. "The GBI programme is a significant push by the Government of India to take unilateral and voluntary action to support the growth of renewable energy, creating an attractive investment market for large independent power producers and foreign direct investors, which will facilitate large-size projects of 50 mw and above," Tulsi Tanti, CMD, Suzlon Energy Ltd, said. |
