Mumbai-based infrastructure firm Valecha Engineering Ltd has won a Rs 50-crore order from nodal agency Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority to build two skywalks in the city.
Speaking to Projectmonitor, a senior project official of VEL said that the skywalks would be built at Kurla and Vidyavihar, both central suburbs in Mumbai. This was the company's first order for skywalks, he noted. The structures will be constructed in six to eight months from receiving the work order. Alongside, the company also won a major order in Delhi. Discussing the details, the official said that the Rs 110-crore contract from Delhi Development Authority involved the construction of a bridge in the Sarita Vihar area of the city.
The Kurla skywalk is amongst the longest skywalks in MMRDA's current portfolio. The 1.3-km long structure will connect the existing foot over-bridge of Kurla railway station to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus railway station. It will also connect the railway FOB at Tilak Nagar railway station to LT Terminus station. Alongside, a 150-metre long skywalk will also be built connecting the middle FOB at Kurla railway station (on the eastern side) to Nehru Nagar, a populous residential and commercial area. At Vidya Vihar, the 150-metre long skywalk will connect the eastern and western sides of the station, in conjunction with the railway FOB. |
