The Phase I of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is expected to be completed shortly.
The project is an initiative of the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board in collaboration with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. The BRTS is being set up under the JNNURM as a SPV called Ahmedabad Janmarg. The entire BRTS is expected to be around 89 km long and is likely to entail a cost of Rs 500 crore.
The BRTS will move along a dedicated corridor running along the middle of the city roads, with state-of-the-art bus stations equipped with facilities like ramps for the disabled, CCTVs and comfortable seating arrangements for the commuters. Phase II of the project is likely to be completed by 2012.
