The Karnataka government will soon announce a state transport policy to provide commuters with services and facilities. According to Transport Minister R. Ashok, the proposed policy would address problems, including reckless driving, erring vehicle operators and tax evaders.
A survey is being conducted to know the per capita public service buses available in the state in order to increase it to the norms to be fixes later. The new transport policy, the first of its kind in the country, is likely to come into effect in one or two years.
The policy would also address the need of taking social security measures for unskilled employees in the transport sector.
The state-owned organization, BMTC which runs Bangalore buses, will start dedicated bus service for the senior citizens who benefit from 25 per cent concession in bus fares.
The state government has also decided to ply state-run city buses in the port city, Mangalore.
