Southern Railways (SR) will be laying a new broad gauge line from Nagapattinam to Tiruthuraipoondi via Tirukkuvalai at a cost of Rs.126 crore.
The station building will be constructed at Pappakoil, Sembiyamahadevi, Palakkurichchi, Tirukkuvalai and Ettukudi. While Tirukkuvulai and Palakkuruchchi will be crossing stations with loop lines, the rest will be halt stations.
Currently, SR is waiting for the approval from Nagapattinam district administration for acquisition of land for the proposed line covering 36.5 km. SR has already floated tenders for the construction of a major bridge across the Adappar river in this section. The new railway line will have 11 major bridges, 74 minor bridges and 22 level crossings.
The work on the new rail lines is scheduled to be completed in three years.
