The Indian Railways has chalked out a plan to lay a double line railway track between Bathinda and Rajpura in Punjab at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Work on this project is expected to begin shortly.

The project is being undertaken keeping in view of the strategic importance of the route and the load of traffic on this route.

Meanwhile, double tracks projects for Chandigarh-Ambala, Ludhiana-Chandigarh and Abohar-Fazilka have been sanctioned.

The Patiala Railway Station will also be upgraded with modern amenities and the platforms, waiting halls and parks at the railway station will be revamped as well.
