Alstom, the France based transportation company, proposes to set up a metro rail coach factory near Chennai.
According to sources, Alstom is looking to put up the facility at the upcoming industrial township, Sri City, some 40 km north of Chennai, within the borders of Andhra Pradesh. The investment details of the project are unknown however details are likely to be revealed when Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, will formally make an announcement on this while on a visit to the Sri City SEZ on 9 September 2009.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that a Germany based company is investing in a railway wheel plant in the Sri City SEZ. BFG International of Bahrain, which makes fibre reinforced polyester and composite mouldings, is also building a facility in the SEZ to make inner linings for coaches.
