The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) is likely to hand over its 4,000 MW thermal power station in Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh to a private company.

A decision in this regard has come after the NTPC took an extremely long time to study the feasibility report on the project. As the state faces severe power shortage, UPPCL decided to opt for PPP route for the proposed project.

On 3 July 2009, UPPCL invited bids from potential consultants for the proposed power project as it plans to establish the power station on the basis of Case-2 tariff-based competitive bidding for procurement of power, as per guidelines issued by the Union Government.
