Coal India Ltd (CIL) in its bid to raise its annual drilling capacity by the end-2011 is mulling over an investment of Rs 500 crore to outsource a part of its drilling work.
CIL is likely to outsource a part of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute's (CPMDI) drilling work to increase the capacity from 200,000 mtrs per annum to one million mtrs per annum. CMPDI is expected to award drilling contracts for 600,00 mtrs and double its capacity to 400,000 mtrs by using modern equipment. Through outsourcing, CIL intends to expedite the process of ascertaining coal reserves that will help it meet the dry fuel requirement of industries, including power and steel.
