GAIL to lay pipeline network

Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) is likely to invest Rs 3,200 crore for laying a network of pipelines to transport and market the gas that will be made available from Petronet LNG, Kochi by 2011.

Of the total planned investment, the company intends to invest Rs 2,500 crore on the 800 km Kochi-Bangalore-Mangalore pipeline whereas remaining Rs 700 crore will be utilised to lay the off-shore pipeline to NTPC Kayamkulam, Kerala. The pipeline to Kayamkulam is expected to be completed by 2011. The land acquisition process for laying the pipeline is underway and is likely to be completed within six months.
