Gail (India) Ltd commissioned its 50-km 30"-dia Ambewadi-Usar pipeline at Alibag in Maharashtra on February 12. The Ambewadi-Usar pipeline connects the tap-off point at Ambewadi on the Panvel-Dabhol pipeline to Gail's existing pipeline in the Usar region.

The new pipeline will enable supply of R-LNG to various customers in Usar region such as Rashtriya Chemicals & Fetilisers Ltd, Ispat Industries Ltd, Vikram Ispat Ltd, HR Johnson, Supreme Industries Ltd and tile maker Nitco Ltd. These companies, some of which are Gail's existing customers, will now benefit from additional availability of natural gas in the form of R-LNG sourced from Petronet's import and regasification terminal at Dahej in Gujarat.
Gail currently has a national gas pipeline network of around 7,000 km that has a capacity of 148 mmscmd. Gail is implementing projects to lay 5,500 km of additional pipelines with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore. By 2011, Gail's gas pipeline network is expected to carry 300 mmscmd of gas.
