BINA REFINERY PROJECTS

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd is making great strides in its Bina despatch terminal project and Bina-Kota pipeline project. The company is hoping to complete both the projects ahead of their schedule by October-November 2009.

The Bina despatch terminal project envisages the construction of a despatch terminal for appropriate storage, distribution and other infrastructure facilities at Bina in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. The Bina-Kota pipeline project envisages laying 18" diameter, 257-km long cross-country product pipeline from Bina to Kota in Rajasthan for economic evacuation of motor spirit (MS), superior kerosene oil (SKO), high-speed diesel oil (HSD) and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) from Bina Refinery.

According to senior officials at BPCL, the despatch terminal project has achieved overall progress of 70.2 per cent against the scheduled progress of 75.5 per cent by March this year, but is expected to pick up speed this month. The company obtained CCOE approval last September and the layout and process design have been finalised. With the site grading and excavation for all tank foundations completed, the tank fabrication and erection, mounded vessel fabrication works, and civil and structural works are in full swing.

In the meantime, the rail traffic clearance has been obtained and the feasibility studies for railway siding and site survey have been completed. The feasibility approval has also been obtained along with the engineering scale plan approved by the West Central Railway. The project management consultancy services for the railway siding works have been awarded to public sector Rites Ltd.

The Bina-Kota pipeline project has achieved overall progress of 49.6 per cent against the scheduled progress of 54 per cent. According to sources, the detailed route survey and cadastral survey have been successfully completed along with the geotechnical investigation for rivers. BPCL has also received exemption from the ministry of environment. The pipeline laying job has been awarded to Kazstroy Service Infrastructure (I) Pvt. Ltd and activity has starte
from Kota in February this year. The pipeline will connect the existing multi-product Mumbai-Manrnad-Manglya-Piyala Bijwasan pipeline at Kota to facilitate the distribution to the northern markets.
