Vedanta's aluminium project in Orissa on track

Vedanta Alumina's Phase I aluminium project in Jharsuguda, Orissa is progressing as per the schedule and is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of financial year 2009-10.

The company is setting up a 5,00,000 tpa aluminium smelter in Phases. The first phase of the plant is likely to become fully operational by end of this fiscal. At present, 228 pots have been brought in line for the project and 76 pots in Phase I are ready for commissioning, awaiting power stabilisation. The company intends to begin phased commissioning from June 2009.

The second phase of 2,50,000 tpa capacity is expected to be fully operational by March 2010.
