Bohler Welding Group India Pvt. Ltd has strong brands, and offers the full range of high nickel, heat resistant alloys, stainless steel, dissimilar metals, copper and copper-based alloys, soldering and brazing alloys, and more.
What are Bohler's future plans for India? We first plan to stabilise ourselves in India and then concentrate on future plans. The company is a worldwide company, but it is only three years old in India, so we will firstly concentrate on stabilisation.
Have you set any growth targets? Yes, we do have plans, big plans, but then the plan is to first consolidate in phase-I, which consists of setting up the company, put proper office in place and stabilise ourselves. Phase-II will involve expansion in marketing and manufacturing support. The investment by Bohler in India will depend on the outcome of phase-I.
Do you have a long-term commitment? Extremely long term. Not to go away at all!
Will you set up a manufacturing hub? We already have manufacturing hubs in China and Indonesia, the third Asian one will be in India. The capacity and investment will all depend on the market conditions. At the moment it will not be possible to decide anything.
Who are your target industries? We are targeting only large fabricators who have the tenacity and capacity to export. In India, large companies are looking at the export markets in Europe and USA. We plan to target them; it is not a cup of tea for small- and medium-scale manufacturers.
How is the slowdown affecting the industry and your company? It has not affected us a lot. It will have an impact next year provided all big projects stop ordering. Our current orders go until 2010, so for the next two years we are not affected. I don't think this slowdown will last until 2010.
What is India's contribution to Bohler`s global sales? Very low. But within the next five years, we aim to make India contribute 25 per cent of Bohler's global sales. In fact, we even plan to manufacture in India and sell to the Middle East. After all, our third manufacturing hub in Asia will be in India.
