Union Government plans 10 new NITs

The Union Government is likely to set up 10 new National Institutes of Technology (NITs), to facilitate quality technical and engineering education in the region.

The new NITs are to come up in Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Goa, Delhi, Puducherry and Uttarakhand.

The total cost of setting up these institutions is expected to be Rs 2,600 crore. While the NITs at Delhi and Uttarakhand will cost the government Rs 300 crore each, the rest of them are to be built at an expenditure of Rs 250 crore each.

The new institutes are expected to be completed over a period of five years.
