Kenya’s Agriculture Minister, William
Ruto has given Kwale International Sugar Company a one-month ultimatum to show
progress in a proposed sugarcane project in Msambweni District in Kenya. The cost of the project is
estimated at Kenyan shilling 21 billion.
Also the
Government will support them only if the company showed commitment to the
project, other wise they shall look for another investor , said Ruto, who was
accompanied by the Tourism Minister Najib Balaala.
But Kwale
International Sugar Company , Senior Manager , Harshil Kotecha said the firm
was committed to the project and would comply with the ministerial directive.
The
Government has allocated 15,000 acres of land formerly occupied by the Ramisi
Sugar Factory for the construction of a sugar plant
