The Central Empowered Committee (CEC), appointed by the Supreme Court (SC) has recommended an instant halt to the construction of Rs 550 crore Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Park in Noida on environmental grounds.

The CEC suggestion has come following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) from a residents' association of Noida. The PIL has raised environment issues against the construction of the mega project that includes huge stone structures besides a four-km long stone wall along the banks of the Yamuna river.

The SC is expected to give instructions over the recommendations shortly.
