Tata Metaliks (TML) has reportedly scrapped its plan of setting up a pig iron unit at Kharagpur in West Bengal at an investment of Rs.800 crore. The new destination is likely to be in Karnataka.

The decision has come in the wake of delay in the allotment of land by West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation. According to the company officials, the state government has also not responded on the coal supply mechanism for the proposed project.

In Karnataka, the company has identified 900 acre near the Hospet-Bellary belt for setting up an integrated iron and steel plant. At present, TML is expecting confirmation from the state government on the availability of land. The company has also applied for 16 iron ore blocks in the region.
