Two states, facing two different issues, arising from one common factor. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to take up the issue of several irrigation projects on Godavari with the Maharashtra government and get all construction work stopped immediately.
A delegation of TDP leaders, led by Lok Sabha MP Erraballi Dayakar Rao and former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, met Reddy at his camp office here and said the Maharashtra government was going ahead with the construction of Babli and 11 other irrigation projects of river Godavari in violation of the Central Water Commission orders.
"If those projects are completed, the Telangana region will turn into a desert as they have the potential to draw 65 tmc ft of water from the Sriram Sagar Project," the delegation said. They demanded that the state government act fast and get the projects stopped immediately.
"Otherwise, we will be compelled to step up our agitation and take to the streets," the delegation told Reddy. Meanwhile, state Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said the AP government was sparing no effort to safeguard the interests of the state.
