After experimenting with the Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine restaurants, Olive Bar & Kitchen will introduce global cuisine at its new restaurant, which is presently under development in New Delhi. The company won the bid in 2008 to develop the restaurant in Hotel Samrat, located near Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The restaurant, bar and lounge concept known as Lap has incurred an investment of over USD one million. It has been developed by AD Singh, Managing Partner, Olive Bar & Kitchen and actor Arjun Rampal. The restaurant will start its operations in September 2009. The restaurant will house 100 covers with around 70 covers more in the alfresco area. Like other restaurants operated by Olive Bar & Kitchen, Lap will target high-end clienteles.
While Singh is considering new concepts for the company’s growth in 2010, presently, the company is in the process of consolidation. “With the market hit by recession, the high-end segment was adversely affected. We now plan to strengthen our existing restaurants before introducing the new concepts,” informed Singh. In late 2008, the company launched Ai, a Japanese restaurant at Saket, Delhi. The company plans to launch the same in Mumbai. Besides the opening of Lap, the company has postponed its other expansion plans until 2010. This includes the creation of Olive Café, a café format for the high-end segment.
Though the high-end restaurants had observed a reduced footfall in the past few months, the company is not considering revision of its target clientele for the new restaurants. Its growth in 2010 will be directed to the same segment, Singh confirms.
