Fortis medicity Phase I to be ready by 2010

Fortis Healthcare is likely to complete Phase I of its medicity in Gurgaon, Delhi by November 2010.

So far, 50 per cent of the construction work has been completed and 250 to 400 beds are expected to come up in Phase I on 1.5 million sq ft. The company is likely to focus on three specialties - cancer, trauma and child care - in Phase I.

Post completion of Phase I, other multi-specialty departments are likely to be started with a total of 1,000 beds in the next five years.

Fortis intends to increase its capacity to 6,000 beds in about 40 hospitals by 2012, with an investment of over Rs 2,500 crore. The company is likely to raise Rs 1,000 crore through rights issue in August 2009. The proceeds will be used to set up the medicity, two greenfield hospitals and a small component of the remaining will be earmarked for inorganic growth.
