Panasonic, the Japanese electronics major has chalked out an investment plan of $300 million (approx Rs 1,500 crore) to ramp up its production facilities and to set up a new unit in India by 2012.
Of the total proposed investment, the company is likely to invest $120 million (approx Rs 600 crore) in the consumer products segment which includes TV, home appliances, air conditioners and refrigerators and the balance amount will be invested in office automation, electronic products and batteries segments.
Besides, plans are in pipeline to expand its TV manufacturing facility in Noida and to set up a manufacturing facility for other products such as air conditioners and refrigerators, in either Chennai or some part of Haryana by end-2010. The company is expected to raise the production capacity of colour televisions at the Noida factory from 600,000 - 1 million units and LCD from 350,000 - 900,000 units by May 2009.
