Areva T&D India, the transmission and distribution division of French engineering group Areva SA, inaugurated its greenfield manufacturing facility in Vadodara on 30 March 2009. The Vadodara facility houses four new factories, which will manufacture ultra-high voltage power transformers, distribution transformers and various switchgears.
Areva plans to inaugurate another four manufacturing facilities in April 2009 at Hosur in Karnataka and Padappai in Tamil Nadu. While the Hosur facility spread over 90,000 sq. mtrs will make condenser bushings and instrument transformers, the facility at Padappai will house three factories over 21,400 sq. mtrs including gas insulated substation production facility. It also has circuit breakers factory and disconnectors factory.
So far, the company has invested Rs 600 crore in setting up the four factories at Vadodara and overall it has invested Rs 950 crore in these projects.
