Kerala State Electricity Board plans to spend Rs 1,370 crore on its investment programme during 2009-10. The bulk of this investment, Rs 600 crore, will be made in the distribution sector followed by generation (Rs 403 crore) and transmission (Rs 367 crore).

In the generation sector, the investment would be spread over 16 power projects apart from seven renewable energy ones. Nearly Rs 75 crore will be spent in 2009-10 for five ongoing hydropower projects that predominantly includes the 100-mw Kuttiyadi extension scheme.

The renovation and modernisation of the existing power stations will also take up around Rs 30 crore. In the transmission & distribution segment, the state electricity board would be building a series of substations ranging from 33kV to 220kV along with associated facilities.
