Indian School of Mines is constructing an academic library at Dhanbad
in Jharkhand. The library, proposed to be the biggest in the country,
will be housed in an eight-storey, centrally air-conditioned building
that will cost around Rs 100 crore to build. The library is coming up
adjacent to ISM's existing building.
The library will showcase state-of-the-art infrastructure and
advanced facilities like remote control lighting, parking space for 60
vehicles, seven elevators with carrying capacity of 20 people each, a
large reading area, generators, and hi-tech security.
The ground floor of the new library
building will be used for parking and
security, while the books and periodicals
section will be located from
the first floor onwards. Seven floors
will have a total reader capacity of 3,500. The lobby on each floor will
be equipped with 20 computer terminals.
Meanwhile, ISM, which is located in Dhanbad, is also developing a
seven storey new academic building at a cost of Rs 93 crore. It will
house four departments-electronics engineering, electrical engineering,
applied physics and applied mathematics. The institute is also
extending the existing executive development centre to provide more
impetus to its training programmes.
These projects are part of a Rs 405-crore expansion plan drawn up
by the institute in 2007. As per this plan, work on several new buildingshostel,
teachers' quarters, student activity centre and petroleum engineering
department-have already started. The next phase of expansion
will include an auditorium, gymkhana, recreation centre, swimming
pool and a lecture hall complex. |
