The Maharashtra Government has recommended Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd's (MSPGCL) proposal, seeking the allocation of a group of coal blocks in the state, to the Union Ministry of Coal.

MSPGCL has applied for five coal blocks, namely Nandori, Konda-Hardoli, Wani-Alesur, Yekoraa I & II and Mahadoli Yevati. MSPGCL proposes to add around 5,880 MW of coal based capacity during the 11th Plan period, for which it will require massive amounts of feedstock.

MSPGCL is likely to require a total of 47 million tpa of coal to feed its installed generation capacity once the proposed projects are commissioned.
