The Central Electricity Authority's Standing Linkage Committee (Long Term) has recommended coal linkage for Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's 1,320-mw Chandrapura thermal power project coming up in the namesake district, under the tariff-based competitive bidding route.
MIDC is already in possession of a 1,194.47-hectare area in Bhadrawati town of Chandrapur district. Out of this area, MIDC has decided to allot 556 hectares to Central India Power Company, an Ispat Group outfit, which is setting up a 2,000-mw coal-fired power plant. MIDC would use the balance 637 hectares for the Chandrapur power project. As per the state water resource department, 50 mcm of water is available in Wardha river at the proposed Dindora barrage. This will be made available to the proposed thermal power plant that is expected to commission by March 2012.
