Nagarjuna Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd, part of Hyderabad-based Nagarjuna Group, has announced the commissioning of its new carbon dioxide recovery plant. The 450-tpd plant is located at Nagarjuna's existing fertiliser complex at Kakinada in East Godvari district of Andhra Pradesh.
Nagarjuna.jpgIn April last year, NFCL signed a licence agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for licensing the Japanese major's technology for the plant. According to information available with Projectmonitor, the plant was constructed by Mumbai-based Tecnimont ICB. The new plant will recover carbon dioxide from flue gas emitted by the existing ammonia primary reformer at the Kakinada fertiliser complex. This captured carbon dioxide will be used to increase urea production.
Mitsubishi in 2005 had also licensed its technology to Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Ltd for two 450-tpd carbon dioxide recovery plants at Aonla and Phulpur, both in Uttar Pradesh. CO2 recovery plants of 450-tpd capacity are considered as being amongst the world's largest.
