Vandana Global Ltd, based at Raipur in Chhattisgarh, plans to set up a cement unit in Janjgir-Champa district. A DPR is ready, and the company has signed an MoU with the Chhattisgarh government.
When Projectmonitor contacted the company, an official said, "The land acquisition is under way. We have applied for limestone reserves; when the license is granted, we will purchase land."
Talking about the capacity of the unit, he said, "The annual capacity of the cement unit is 2 million tpa, and the unit would be spread over 500 acres. It will also include 70-mw coal-based power unit. The cost of setting up the entire project is about Rs 700 crore, and it will start functioning in the next two years."
When asked about the little-known place of Janjgir-Champa, he said, "The Janjgir-Champa is a district situated in the centre of Chhattisgarh, hence it is called the Heart of Chhattisgarh. A major producer of food grains, the district headquarters are in Janjgir which is situated on the NH-200. The small town is 65 km from Bilaspur and 175 km from Raipur, the state capital via road." Janjgir is also connected with the railway line of South-Eastern Railway, and situated on Howrah-Mumbai main line. The district has two railway stations, Naila and Champa.
