French company in JV with Sagar Cements

French cement maker Vicat has formed a JV with Sagar Cements to build a $625 million (Rs.2,500 crore) cement plant at Gulbarga in Karnataka. In the JV, around 51 percent will be owned by Vicat and the remaining 49 percent by Sagar, with Vicat acquiring a 6.6 percent shareholding in Sagar Cements.

The plant will have a 5.5 million tpa cement grinding unit a four million tpa clinkerisation unit. The project will include a 60 MW thermal power plant. Production is expected to start in 2012.
