Ambuja Cements has said that the project cost of its two grinding units at Bhatapara in Chhattisgarh and Rauri in Himachal Pradesh is likely to escalate by 10 per cent from earlier estimates of Rs 1,600 crore, due to increased commodity prices.

The total investment in the projects has shot up due to the steep cost increases for steel and civil engineering during the year. Work on the plants having a combined capacity of 4.4 million tonne is underway. The Bhatapara unit is expected to be operational by June 2009 and the Rauri unit by end-2009.
