Ford India intends to bring its small car on the road by 2010.
Currently, around 300 prototypes of the small car are on the road for testing. The small car is expected to have a localisation of around 85 per cent from the start to production stage. The car predominantly designed for the Indian market, will have petrol and diesel engine options.
Till now, Ford has invested around $900 million (approx Rs 4,320 crore) in the country. This includes $500 million (approx Rs 2,400 crore) for the new engine plant, the small car project and ramping up of the vehicle assembling capacity from 1 to 2 lakh units.
