On 19 January 2010, the board of Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) has approved the construction of a second terminal (T2) which is to increase the capacity of Bangalore airport to 15 million passengers per annum.

The T2 is expected to be further expanded in the next phase to eventually handle 36 million passengers per annum. Associated airside infrastructure is to be expanded to cater to the new terminal. Design for the new terminal building is to be selected through a global bidding process.

To meet the growth in passenger traffic, the existing terminal building is likely to be expanded, for which the architectural firm HOK has been appointed.

BIAL plans to fast track construction of new terminal building, which is already running behind schedule.
